Yang Shanshen 楊善深 AKA Yang Shen-sum ( 1913-2004 ) one of the Masters
|
|
of Lingnan school, was born in Taishan, Guangdong Province China.
|
|
|
1930
|
A self-taught painter, he moved to Hong Kong and met Gao Jiangu, who became
|
|
his friend and with whom he exchanged ideas on painting.
|
|
|
1935-1938
|
He moved to study in Japan, at Domoto Art Institute under the guidance of Japanese
|
|
Domoto Insho (1891-1975).
|
|
|
1941
|
He took refuge in Macau during the Second World War, and founded with Gao Jianfu
|
|
and Gao Qifeng :The Xieshe Art Society, inspired by Western Art, to modernize Chinese
|
|
painting.
|
|
|
1945
|
He settled in Hong Kong. |
|
|
1970
|
He founded Chun fung Art Club, taught painting, and participated in the exhibitions with
|
|
his students. |
|
|
1988
|
He moved to Canada and stayed there for five years during which time, in a quiet
|
|
environment , he produced major works.
|
|
|
2004
|
He passed away on May 15, at home, in Hong Kong, at the age of 91. |
