1876

Chen Shizeng  陈师曾 ( 1876 - 1923 ) was born on in March 2, in Fenghuang, Hunan

 

Province  China.

 

 

1902

He studied occidental painting in Japan.

 

 

1909

He returned to China and taught at the Normal School of Nantong.

   
 

Painter, calligrapher, poet, writer, educator, very active in the circles of the Art,

 

he contributed to develop the traditional Chinese painting.

   

1920

He took part in the creation of the Association of Chinese Painting Studies.

 

He organized three Sino-Japanese exhibitions ( 1920 ) ( 1921 ) and ( 1922 ).

   

1921

He was a professor at the National School of Fine Arts in Beijing.

   

1922

He wrote The History of Chinese Painting, for the use of the courses of the School

 

of Fine Arts of Beijing.

   

1923

He died on september 12 in Nanjing, in Jiangsu Province.

   

2016

For the 140th anniversary of the birth of Chen Shizeng, the Beijing National Art Museum

 

organised a commemorative exhibition with works from NAMOC, from the Beijing Palace

 

Museum, the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Beijing Academy of Fine Arts.
