Chang Shuhong 常书鸿 was born on April 6 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.

He organized the largest exhibition of the remains of Dunhuang at the Imperial

Palace Museum in Beijing. All copies of Dunhuang's arts were on display.

As a talented painter, he was appointed keeper of the Dunhuang Caves by the Prime

Minister Zhou Enlai.

1994
|
His memoirs Fifty years in Dunhuang were published on the occasion of his birthday.

He died shortly after, at the hospital on June 23, at the age of ninety.
|
|
|
1999
|
His family donated 40 works to the Zhejiang Museum, which are permanently displayed
|
|
in the gallery name after him.
